Community policing is a proactive approach to law enforcement that fosters positive relationships between police officers and the communities they serve. As a law enforcement agency committed to serving and protecting our community, we believe that community policing is the most essential component of effective policing. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with community members to create a safer, more secure, and more peaceful Berlin for all to enjoy.
As a part of our effort to provide a comprehensive service, the Berlin Police Department has many officers that go beyond the standard patrol officer. Our K-9 unit consists of highly trained dogs and handlers who work together to detect drugs, apprehend suspects, and search for missing persons. Our BART (Berlin Accident Reconstruction Team) unit manages and assists with investigating major crashes on the Eastern Shore. Our Traffic Safety Unit is designed to patrol specific areas during high volume and high risk times to mitigate certain traffic issues. Within the traffic safety unit are ARIDE (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement) certified officers who specialize in detecting and deterring impaired drivers.
